Hepburn Shire Council is officially launching its Reconciliation Action Plan INNOVATE (RAP) as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations, marking a significant step in its commitment to truth-telling, respect and meaningful change.

The launch event will be held on Friday, July 11, from 1pm to 3pm at Hepburn Pavilion, Mineral Springs Road, Hepburn Springs. Community members are warmly invited to attend.

Mayor, Cr Don Henderson, said the event was more than a launch, it was another milestone in the Hepburn Shire’s reconciliation journey.

“Our RAP reflects our commitment to walking together with First Nations people on a path of healing, action and respect,” Cr Henderson said.

The afternoon will begin with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony delivered by respected Elders Uncle Rick Nelson and Jason Kerr.

A highlight of the event will be a live performance by acclaimed artist Amos Roach, son of Aboriginal musicians Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter, whose music deeply honours Country, culture and spirit.

Guests can also enjoy billy tea, damper and the opportunity to connect and reflect with the local community.

The INNOVATE RAP outlines practical actions that will drive the council’s contribution to reconciliation both internally and in the wider community over the coming years.
