Blowouts in most games

In a strange match at Riddell, the Bombers trailed Kyneton at half-time, before taking complete control to win by 52 points.

The five senior footy matches in round 12 of the Riddell League on Saturday were all won by healthy margins. Fine conditions encouraged good football.

In a strange match at Riddell, the Bombers trailed Kyneton at half-time, before taking complete control to win by 52 points.

The first half was a battle of the defences, with a very determined Kyneton leading 3.3 to 2.5 at the long interval.

Whatever was said at half-time seemed to rejuvenate the Bombers, as they kicked 14.1 to 4.6 in the second half.

Hamish Yunghanns, James O’Sullivan and Calan Bowman were prominent for the Tigers.

Bottom side Lancefield finally put four quarters of sustained football together to win its first match since August, 2023, defeating Gisborne Giants by 33 points.

The Tigers were partially inspired by the huge win by their women’s team on Friday night which clinched a finals spot.

After a big win over the Giants, Romsey ran into a rampant Wallan with the Magpies buoyed by big performances from former AFL players Jake Carlisle and Cameron Cloke. The home side slammed home 12 goals to three in the first half to consolidate third spot on the ladder.

Redbacks’ topliner Jack Jedwab contributed six of his side’s nine goals.

Macedon faced an acid test at Melton South, and rebounded from a lacklustre display seven days earlier to win by 34 points against Melton South to move into sixth spot.

Woodend-Hesket broke through for its third win of the season with a confidence boosting 18.13 (121) to 7.6 (48) margin away against a struggling Melton Centrals.

Bowen Medal winner Daniel Toman was near peak form for the Hawks, again gaining numerous possessions.

There’s a Final Six this season and with five home and away rounds to go, it is anyone’s guess which one of several contenders will finish missing out on playing finals.

BIG MATCH AT RIDDELL

One of the matches of the season looms this Saturday in round 14, with last season’s grand finalists Riddell and Diggers Rest, to shape up at Bomberland.

There’s plenty at stake, and both teams have plenty of damaging players.

Riddell will be looking to bring Saturday’s second half form against Kyneton, rather than its first half, or the visitors could go home on top of the ladder with a psychological edge going into the finals.

Other matches on Saturday are:

Macedon v Kyneton.

Romsey v Melton South.

Woodend-Hesket v Gisborne Giants.

Lancefield v Wallan.

Melton Centrals a bye.
