Pool’s future murky

Castlemaine Fitness Centre, with the town's only indoor pool, has been repossessed.

Reports of a ‘seizure’ of Castlemaine’s only indoor swimming pool by the Sheriff’s Office Victoria, filtered through to the Express last Thursday afternoon.

Upon investigation, we found the doors of Castlemaine Fitness Centre closed and padlocked.

The news of the closure certainly made a splash with both swimmers and gym-goers alike, who, having donned their gear, arrived to find the green doors firmly shut and a trespass notice taped to the window, which read:

TRESPASS NOTICE

The Mortgagee is now in possession of 23A Lyttleton Street, Castlemaine Vic 345 pursuant to the powers contained within its Mortgage.

Please be advised that the Mortgagee has secured all doors and windows and may PROSECUTE if you trespass upon the Property.

For further information regarding this property please contact MERC Property on admin@mercproperty.com.au.

While inspecting the building and signage, the Express witnessed a number of disappointed patrons arriving.

One man told the Express that he had handed over $750 for membership just the day before.

If, and when, patrons will be reimbursed remains to be seen and the future of the facility is unclear.
