Practise paying off: Ben and Marlow English at the Macedon courts on Saturday.

The Australian Open is in full swing, and many tennis enthusiasts from the Express circulation area are paying plenty of attention to what is taking place at the extremely busy Melbourne Park.

Macedon Tennis Club’s coach, Ashleigh Woda, has been instrumental in plenty of young local players visiting the centre over the past couple of weeks.

On Saturday, Ben English and 13-year-old son Marlow spent time in a practice session on the Macedon courts.

Marlow is extremely keen on the sport, and is looking forward to beginning his second year at Braemar College.

The English family came to the area from Perth, where Ben’s father was highly involved in the sport for a lengthy period.

“I’m really impressed with Macedon Tennis Club … the outgoing committee members did a good job and new president Mark Thomas is really putting in.

“I enjoy helping the club, and I’m sure more volunteers would be welcomed as well,” Ben added.

Marlow is keen to improve his tennis, and finds the club is very welcoming for young players.
