A high-speed police pursuit out of Melbourne ended when the driver of a stolen vehicle crashed and flipped it on its roof at Woodend last week.
The 30-year-old driver from St Albans was taken to hospital after he crashed the car near a level crossing on Tylden-Woodend Road about 12.30pm last Tuesday afternoon.
Police allege the driver failed to stop when first spotted in Melton, sparking a chase that continued through Bacchus Marsh, Trentham and Tylden.
A Macedon Ranges Highway Patrol unit attempted to intercept the vehicle between Tylden and Woodend but abandoned the pursuit when the driver continued at high speed towards Woodend.
The police air wing followed the vehicle before it lost control.
Officers from Ballarat were first on the scene and assisted the driver from the wreckage.
The man was arrested at the scene and taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
He is expected to be charged with 25 offences, including dangerous driving while pursued by police, reckless conduct endangering life, failing to stop on police direction and driving at a dangerous speed.
The train line was closed for several hours while emergency services responded to the crash.
