One of the Macedon Ranges’ best-loved gardening events will return this October, with the Bolobek Garden Fair once again opening the gates to one of Victoria’s most admired private gardens.
Now in its 12th year, the fair will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4, at the historic Bolobek property on Mount Macedon Road, Macedon, bringing together more than 50 specialist stallholders, guest speakers and thousands of garden enthusiasts.
Just under an hour from Melbourne, Bolobek opens to the public only once a year, offering visitors the chance to wander its renowned gardens while browsing an extensive range of rare plants, bulbs, garden tools, artisan food and local wines. Guided tours of the historic garden will also be available.
This year’s keynote speaker is Jo Lawson, head gardener at acclaimed regional restaurant Brae, who will share her approach to cultivating productive gardens, seasonal cooking and sustainable living.
Named after the First Nations’ word meaning ‘undulating’, Bolobek sits in the foothills of the Macedon Ranges and has a rich history dating back to its first settlement in 1839. Once home to Oswald Syme, son of The Age founder David Syme, the property is now cared for by Brigid and Hugh Robertson, who have restored the gardens, expanded the productive vegetable and picking gardens, and planted tens of thousands of trees across the surrounding farm.
Beyond showcasing exceptional gardens, the fair continues to support the local community. All proceeds are donated to community organisations and horticultural, botanical and environmental projects across the Macedon Ranges. More than $120,000 has been distributed over the past three years.
The Bolobek Garden Fair will be open from 10am to 4pm on October 3 and 4 at 370 Mount Macedon Road, Macedon. Entry is $20, with children under 16 admitted free. Tickets are available online or at the gate.
