Central Highlands Rural Health continued its rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine to residents in Creswick, Daylesford and Trentham aged care facilities last week.
More than 70 residents across the three sites rolled up their sleeves to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was administered by the Grampians mobile vaccination team from Ballarat Health Services.
Specialist nurse immunisers administered the first dose of the vaccine to residents, which will be followed by a second dose in coming weeks.
Trentham Aged Care resident Margaret Wheeler was one of the first residents to receive the vaccine.
“The staff here do all they can to protect us. We’re well taken care of and they try their very best with everything,” Ms Wheeler said.
“I think it [the vaccine] is quite important; it is helping us to keep safe.”
Central Highlands Rural Health’s CEO Maree Cuddihy said the lockdowns brought about by the pandemic had not been easy for residents, their families and the staff who cared for them.
“We want to be able to welcome visitors to our homes without worry. The vaccine helps us protect our residents from the COVID-19 virus,” Ms Cuddihy said.
Central Highlands Rural Health continues to work with the Grampians and Loddon-Mallee vaccinations hubs, as well as state and federal governments on the vaccination rollout program and will continue to update the community with further details as they are known.
