Malmsbury’s top two cricket sides secured good wins on Saturday, with a swashbuckling century by Parminder ‘Parmy’ Singh the undoubted highlight.
In the Jensen Shield match against Sunbury at Riddell, Singh effectively snuffed out Sunbury’s hopes.
Malmsbury bowlers contained the opposition to 5/173, with opener Dylan Caruna shining with 84., and Kyle Fisher claiming two wickets.
The run chase began slowly, and at one stage the Berries were 3/41 before the Parmy Party clicked into gear.
Singh’s unbeaten 104 included eight sixes and nine fours as Malmsbury powered to 5/178 with seven overs to spare.
In division 2, Riddell batted first on the Mighty MCG and amassed a fair score of 6/160 c.c. from 40 overs.
Dan Fish was in fine form with an unbeaten 91, and Michael Rosacker contributed 43.
The bowling was good, with Chris Knott shining with 3-8 from his eight tight overs.
Malmsbury’s batsmen shared the run chase load, reaching 5/163 as Matt Cox 44, David Nolte 33, Brendon Cleaver 28 n.o. and Justin Murphy 24 all contributed.
Playing at Tylden, Malmsbury’s North Grade side was happy to restrict Wallan to 8/103 as bowlers and fieldsmen excelled. Melanie Sharp 2-21 and Simon Rogers 2-20 did best with the ball.
In reply, the Berries again struggled with the bat with Tenzin de Podolinsky 22, Tom Kimber 18 and Steve Tautkus all getting a start.
It was not enough, as Malmsbury was all out in the 30th over for 92.
