Everything is in readiness for the traditional New Year’s Day race meeting tomorrow (Saturday) at Hanging Rock.

Kyneton and Hanging Rock Racing Club has been taking advance package bookings from patrons for several weeks.

A shuttle bus service will run from Woodend Railway Station to ‘The Rock’ from 10.30am. Tickets are $5 per person return.

Many regular attendees have been coming  to ‘The Rock’ on this day for years, and there are expected to be plenty of newcomers who just want to experience a big social day out as well during the festive season. With a very hot day predicted, hats and sun screen are a priority.

Gates open at 11am with the first of six races, the Frontier Touring Maiden Plate, at 1.50pm.

There are six events on the program, with the day’s racing to conclude with the Tony McMahon BM58 Handicap over 2400m at 5.10pm.

The other races are the Miranda Park Stan Nicholls Sprint, Furphy Crisp Maiden Plate, Midland Express BM52 Handicap, and bet365 Bruce Jones Memorial Handicap.

Kyneton trainer Neil Dyer has chalked up his share of winners over the years at this venue, and is pinning his hopes on In Bel’s Shadow in the final event over 2400m.

In Bel’s Shadow broke through for her first win at Benalla over 2046m on December 18, and will again be ridden by claiming apprentice Hannah Le Blanc.

Following tomorrow’s meeting, the local club will be preparing for the 2022 Australia Day meeting at Hanging Rock.
