Winning combination

Kyneton Croquet players are becoming more adventurous in going out to test their abilities in regional competitions.

Two pairs made the trip to Geelong last Saturday to compete in the Eastern Park Croquet Club Doubles Tournament against players from five other clubs.

Damien Hadfield is the current Kyneton Croquet Club singles champion and has competed in other tournaments before, but for partner Pat Fahy this was his first ever tournament. They proved a winning combination.

After a slow start where they narrowly won their first two matches 7-6, they then combined well and went on to be undefeated and comprehensive winners of the tournament.

For the second pairing of Bill Caddaye and Graham Smith it was a completely different affair, only winning one match and having to come home with a wooden spoon each.

This week sees the start of a shortened Northern District Croquet Association Pennant Competition to make up for the cancellation of last year’s full competition.

Play will be in three divisions with teams from Kyneton, Macedon Ranges (Gisborne), Maldon and Quarry Hill taking part.
