Resonance String Orchestra is hosting a Big String Day on Saturday at Castlemaine Secondary College.
The all-ages event will include music, team-building games, whole orchestra sessions and instrument-based tutorials.
The tutorials will be led by Resonance co-artistic director Emma Wade, and Maryborough Education Performing Arts Coordinator Sarina Walter and co-artistic director Heather Cummins.
Sam Goble, Lizzy Welsh and Charlotte Ryssenbeek will also be taking tutorials, mentoring and ensure everyone has a great time!
Big String Day (made possible by financial support from the Ulumbarra Foundation’s ‘Performing Arts Power Up’ Grants) is open to students with established beginner skills to Grade 2 AMEB standard from Macedon Ranges, Mount Alexander, and neighbouring shires.
Co-artistic director Heather Cummins told the Express that the Big String Day was an invitation for established beginners to come and try.
“It will be four hours of magical music making,” she said.
“Students can come as a one off or as a taster before they join the Apprenti Strings program.”
Resonance has been running a high quality, supportive inter-generational string orchestra program for beginners to advanced players in Castlemaine and Woodend, for more than 15 years, and is renowned for the quality of its work and the fulfilling experience players have.
Big String Day will finish with a short performance for families and a Q&A. Students can attend the session as a one-off experience, or join up for our year-long Apprenti Strings program after the event.
The cost is $40 per student, which is payable on the day.
It’s on from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, March 29 at Castlemaine Secondary College.
