The challenges of renovating a rundown country home in Kyneton provided ample material for playwright Tahli Corin and her screenwriter husband Josh Tyler to produce a short film for an exciting new performance initiative.
The couple’s contribution is one of 16 new plays about the places we live destined for both live performance and digital distribution for Come to Where I Am – Australia.
Come to Where I Am – Australia, from Paines Plough and Critical Stages Touring, has engaged writers in regional and remote towns to craft a snapshot of what life is like in their part of the country right now.
Tahli (One for the Ugly Girls) and Joshua (Top End Wedding) moved from inner-city Sydney to Kyneton for a tree change seven years ago.
“We live out of town on five acres in a house we call a shack,” Tahli said. “But it’s a beautiful piece of land.
“Josh and I have been together for a very long time but we haven’t written together for 12 years so we thought it would be something good for us to do in this time.”
But with two children under the age of seven it proved a challenge to actually get the filming done.
“We had to film it in three-minute snippets when the kids were sleeping,” Josh said.
“And we thought the challenges that renovating had on a marriage would be good drama!”
Come to Where I Am – Australia premieres on Facebook with a livestream event on Wednesday September 2 before becoming available to stream on-demand on the Critical Stages Touring website and the YouTube channel of Paines Plough.
