The Midland Express took out Best Magazine Publication and Best Photographic Study at the Victorian Country Press Association’s annual awards last Friday.
Best Magazine Special Publication went to our Lifestyle in the Macedon Ranges magazine, which was compiled by the Express team. Judge Garry Baker’s comments were:
“This magazine is well planned, categorised for easy reading and delivers quality in every aspect, from the beautiful front cover photo to the real estate agent’s short, sharp advertising message on the back cover. Editorial – including advertorials – is well written and the advertisements effectively follow the lifestyle theme. A worthy winner.”
Best Photographic Study went to Eve Lamb’s photo study from Castlemaine’s Australia Day, which was published on the front page. Judge Bob Mackie’s comments were:
“A fantastic photo with multiple points of impact. The photo offers a powerful insight into Australian multiculturalism at Castlemaine’s Australia Day citizenship ceremony with a focus on Aboriginal elder Rick Nelson performing a traditional blessing for a new citizen, turban-wearing Amanpreet Singh. In the photo, the two men frame a child who looks on with rapt attention. A powerful photo, well-treated on the Express’ front page.”
The Midland Express was also commended for its Macedon Ranges Wine and Food Budburst Festival advertising feature. Judges commented it was “a very attractive eight-page wrap highlighting the region’s wineries, weekend festival activities and wine trail map”.
