Aged care residents keep in touch with outside world

Margaret Purcell and Jennifer Van Groningen catch up via RM Begg Aged Care's 'Welcome Window'.

The residents of RM Begg Kyneton Aged Care may currently be in lockdown but the staff are making sure they still have contact with the outside world.
No visitors are permitted but residents continue to be connected with their family and friends via email, face time, phone calls, letters and social media.
Families also have the opportunity to book an appointment to speak to their family member via the facility’s ‘Welcome Window’.
CEO Sarah Collier said escalating circumstances with the COVID-19 pandemic had resulted in going to lockdown.
“In these difficult times the staff and management of RM Begg wish to reassure the public that RM Begg Homes are continuing to provide the highest standard of care,” Ms Collier said.
“Government guidelines from both federal and state departments are being strictly adhered to, resulting in restrictions to visitors and visiting times.
“All our volunteers who are now unable to visit are continuing to contact the residents they have interacted with via various means.
“The comfort, care and safety of our residents is, as always, our main priority.”
RM Begg is also endeavouring to work with the community by providing some job and training opportunities to those stood down from local businesses.
The not-for-profit, community based organisation offers accommodation for the elders of the community and has been in operation since 1959.
“We are a ‘stand-alone’ organisation, which means we are not affiliated with multi-site providers,” Ms Collier said.
“This allows us to focus on our community and its unique needs.”Now, more than ever, RM Begg requires community support to assist in our ongoing future.”
