Fifty Kyneton families doing it tough over the holidays were gifted food hampers thanks to the generosity of the local charity arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church.
Working with Kyneton Community House, the church’s Rapid Relief Team donated boxes containing a variety of non-perishable goods, with each box able to last a family of four up to 48 hours.
In addition to canned goods, cereals and long-life food, the boxes contained festive items including candy canes, Christmas gravy and other similar goods.
RRT local team leader for Kyneton, Rob Valentine, said Christmas could be a challenging time of year for families doing it tough, especially during a pandemic.
“We hope these food boxes will provide a little relief to those who need some extra support during this period,” Mr Valentine said.
“Working with Kyneton Community House is always a pleasure, and we extend our thanks to the team for connecting us with these lovely local families.”
Kyneton Community House director Claire Rawlinson said it was wonderful to see some additional support for local families.
“We see folk from all walks of life come through our doors, and we do our absolute best to support them however we can,” Ms Rawlinson said.
“The last two years have been particularly tricky for a lot of people, especially over the Christmas period. We are very grateful to receive some additional means of support from RRT.”
RRT supports hundreds of flood, fire and drought rescue efforts each year, and also assists the healthcare system through donating food boxes and other supplies where required.
The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church established RRT in 2013 to express its principles of care and compassion. It is staffed by church volunteers who provide catering services at a range of charitable events and emergencies.
Globally, the RRT has more than 14,500 volunteers and operates in Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, France, the United States, Canada and Germany.
