The role of women in policing was celebrated with a special International Women’s Day event at Castlemaine Police Station on Sunday.
Inspector Donna Mitchell, local area commander for the Goldfields, gave one of our journalists and a couple of Castlemaine Secondary College students the opportunity to join her on a behind-the-scenes tour of the station and hit the streets along with her daughter and fellow policewoman Detective Sergeant Jaymee Cutler of the Broadmeadows Family Violence Investigation Unit and her daughter Olivia who was a ‘Little Copper’ for the day.
Female members were also out in force on the day patrolling in the van and greeting visitors to the station.
The theme of the event was ‘You Can’t Be What You Can’t See’ and aimed to encourage more young women to consider a career with Victoria Police.
