It was a busy day for Gisborne Fire Brigade crews yesterday with their morning starting off with a single-car accident on Ross Watt Road in Gisborne just after 10.30am.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, misjudged a turn and ended up on an embankment.
Luckily the driver suffered only minor injuries and was taken to hospital via road ambulance for observation.
Incident controller Joel Wood said firefighters assisted ambulance crews with patient removal and making the scene safe.
“Firefighters helped paramedics carry the driver of the vehicle down the embankment and into the ambulance, we also ensured the vehicle was not posing any further risk. Traffic control was in place for approximately 45 minutes,” Mr Wood said.
Later that afternoon Gisborne, Riddells Creek and FRV crews from Sunbury responded to reports of smoke inside a bathroom at an address in New Gisborne.
Incident controller Bevan Moody said smoke was issuing from the floor area of an ensuite bathroom.
“Breathing apparatus crews investigated the master bedroom ensuite area of the house with a thermal imaging camera and gas detector to rule out any potential heat source or hazardous material incident,” Lieutenant Moody said.
“To be certain, we also checked the rest of the house including the roof space but nothing was found.
“A phone call was made to Western Water to correlate times with their scheduled sewer drain smoking testing and it was found to tie in with the time of the caller.”
