Several local businesses have been affected by customers paying with counterfeit money. The majority of the cases involve $50 notes of good quality.


Police say there are usually signs that the currency is false as they often feel different, especially around the clear plastic ‘window’.


If you do come across a bank note that you suspect is counterfeit, police advise:


– Handle the note as little as possible and store it in an envelope.
– Note the relevant information, such as how it came into your possession.
– Report the matter immediately to state or federal police.
