The National Insect Expo is fast approaching and this year’s event promises some rather unusual visitors that will meet and greet the public.

Giant blowfly characters along with their juvenile maggots will be there performing a wonderful puppetry presentation highlighting

the important role that flies play in the breakdown and recycling of nutrients back to the environment.

Things of Foam and Wood have put together this exciting show and have taken them nearly a year to create their puppets in order to have them ready for the expo.

Expo director Bert Candusio said the performances would offer a new experience to visitors at this year’s event while also supporting the performing artists themselves.

“Not only will we be having a new aspect to the expo this year in the form of the puppet presentations, but we will also be featuring other live performances by Gone Buggo throughout each day. The insect arts are a highlight this year,” he said.

Exhibitors are already getting their displays organised and there are many new exhibitors at this year’s expo. This means that the public will see their displays for the first time. Also, the expo will have students of the National Bug Club sharing their insect projects and workbooks on their own display area and are all excited to be a part of the expo for the first time.

The National Insect Expo will be again held at the Buffalo Stadium, Woodend on the weekend of October 3 to 5, 10am to 5pm daily.
