Summer holidays are great fun, there’s the sun, the ice-creams, the beach or pool, what seems like endless holidays.
But what do you do when you have done all of this in the first week of summer holidays, and the kids are bored?
Google Trends has identified the most popular swimming activities for kids. With both a way to keep them cool and occupied, they will also learn about swim safety, a new sport and build new skills.
Here are the top 8 popular swimming activities for kids:
1. Swimming lessons
2. Water Polo
3. Surf Life Saving
4. Nippers
5. Open water swimming
6. Diving
7. Artistic swimming
8. Squad swimming
With the increased numbers of drownings across Australia, what better way to keep the kids busy and safe this summer period than by taking them to one of the above.
According to Life Saving Victoria’s Watch Around Water policy, anyone under 5 years of age must remain within arm’s reach of an adult at all times. Under 10 years of age must be constantly and actively supervised with a clear line of sight, with no physical barriers or distractions like mobile phones, books, or devices.
Children over the age of 10 should have parents or guardians assess the individual child’s swimming ability and water maturity to determine the appropriate level of supervision.
In line with the WAW policy, all children need to be supervised, so why not join in on the fun yourself, learn some artistic swimming or join the Surf Life Saving Club?
Australian summers have always been hot, and there is no better way to cool down than with a swim, but what is more important is that you never swim alone, and supervision is key to keeping everyone safe this summer.
