In a fitting lead up to International Women’s Day the Castlemaine District Cricket Association celebrated its inaugural women’s cricket competition Grand Final on Friday evening.
On the night top of the ladder Barkers Creek played host to a young and promising Castlemaine United team in front of a great crowd at the Barkers Creek Cricket Ground.
Barkers Creek came into the match having only suffered one loss for the season. However, United also had three wins and a draw under their belt and were showing improvement with every match.
Friday night’s game was once again played in the fun, friendly and encouraging spirit which the competition was created for.
In the end Barkers Creek proved too strong with the bat winning the contest 3-133(cc) to Castlemaine United 6-93.
Barkers Creek were presented with a medallion each and a cup for their trophy cabinet.
It’s great to see women of all ages getting behind the modified format of the game, with Guildford Cricket Club also looking at forming a side to join the friendly local competition next season.
Any women interested in playing next season can speak to Castlemaine District Cricket Association women’s representative Jo Martin for more information on 0407 844 093.
