Top spot battle

Goal shooter Emily Barbour was in dynamic form for Woodend-Hesket Under 19.5s against Macedon.

Macedon consolidated its position on top of the Riddell League A-grade netball ladder with a tight three-goal victory over second-placed Woodend-Hesket on Saturday.


The encounter at Tony Clarke Reserve had a finals like atmosphere, and the Ciara Stewart coached Cats were up to the challenge.


The Hawks missed several good scoring chances in the first quarter, and defences were generally on top.


Their seventh round clash provided the closest finish across the four grades.


Macedon is now six points clear on top of the ladder, with Wallan, Western Rams, Woodend-Hesket and Diggers Rest all in the mix for a finals berth.

In an ominous display Macedon B-graders defeated Woodend-Hesket by 15 goals, and ladder leader Lancefield held off a strong challenge from Diggers Rest.

The sides in the four consolidated their positions in C-grade, with Macedon having the biggest win of the round.

A well-drilled and talented Woodend-Hesket 19&U side more than doubled Macedon’s score to continue an unbeaten record this season.
