Undeterred by a narrow loss to Harcourt, Trentham senior footballers showed plenty of intensity and spirit to defeat Navarre on Saturday and stay in the MCDFNL finals race.

The Saints knew their season was on the line and for three quarters it was an intense, low-scoring battle.

Navarre had kicked a huge score the previous weekend and Trentham took no chances after trailing by nine points at the first break.

Down by a point at the last change, the Saints showed why they finished on top of the ladder with several telling goals to end up earning a spot in the preliminary final against Carisbrook this Sunday (2.35pm at Princes Park).

Trentham 10.9 (69) d Navarre 7.3 (45).

Goals (T) – L. Bianco, R. Matricardi, L. Whitehouse 2, J. Dowling, Z. Gervasoni, J. Keogh, C. Webber-Mirkin.
Best – B. Cass, H. Knight, J. Mighell, Bianco, Webber-Mirkin, Matricardi.

Trentham Reserves had a week off and maintained their training schedule. They play Carisbrook at Princes Park (12.50pm) this Saturday in the preliminary final.

The Under 11.5s are Trentham’s little champions, and they had an early start after an amazing effort to reach the semi-finals and should be proud of their efforts.

Thanks for a great season to Dolf, Al and Mez and thanks again to the loyal supporters who have come along to encourage these future superstars.

Carisbrook won 5.3 to 1.1 (D. Thompson).

Best players were H. Thompson, W. Hopper, H. Leong, A. Ryrie, H. Shaw, E. Hamilton Grey.

NETBALL VICTORY

Trentham C-grade netballers excelled with a narrow victory over Lexton, and now play Carisbrook at 12.15pm on Saturday.

The Saints were strong at both ends of the court and worked hard as a team to give the shooters as many chances as possible.

Communication was difficult above the roar of the crowd.

The Saints maintained their composure in the last quarter for a 32-29 victory, with B. Barklem the best player.
