Castlemaine District Cricket Association senior sides contested one-day matches in round three of the 2023-2024 season last Saturday. B Grade battled out one-day contests in round two and C Grade (Under 16) played day one of their first two-day fixture. The Women enjoyed a week’s rest and return to the pitch this Friday evening. 

Highlights of the round were Barkers Creek A Grade batsman Bodhi Robinson’s 117-run effort against Castlemaine United and fellow Barkers Creek bowler Kalan Huntly’s 4-16 with the ball. Campbells Creek Colts B Grader Leigh Walker also claimed 4-13 in their win over Newstead, and Guildford B Grade bowler Ben Tombs 4-45, but it wasn’t enough to edge out a determined Hepburn. Colts Phelans C Grade bowler Brett Coon also claimed 4-13 on day one against Newstead. Results were as follows: 

A Grade 

Newstead 4-185 (Bradley Richardson 71 not out, Cameron Hepburn 21, Ben Walter 19; Robert Brown 2-27) defeated Maiden Gully Lions 5-182 (Guy Moore 49 not out, Robert Brown 44, Brett Haw 31; Ben Walter 2-24). Guildford 4-165 (Nathan Webster 45, Charles Bunting 45, DS Wijemanna 35; David Envall 3-30) defeated Muckleford 5-161 (Daniel Peckham 42 not out, Ryley Brennan 33, Dakota Slingo 20; Iran Indika 2-17). A Reserve 

Taradale 4-161 (Brock Fletcher 75, Luke Cameron 34, Andrew Vance 15 not out; Billy Jury 3-39) defeated Harcourt 110-158 (Billy Jury 32, Scott Thompson 27 not out, Tom Kelson 23; Luke Cameron 2-16, Kym Szegedi 2-28, Caleb Kuhle 2-31). Muckleford 0-81 (Toby Chapple 32 not out, Tim Gingell 34 not out) defeated Barkers Creek 9-74 (Ben Van Egmond 23; Jack Smith 3-17, Patrick Leathem 2-9, Craig Tingay 2-21). Maiden Gully Lions 10-130 (Byron Rogers 29, Oliver McKenzie 16, Robert Douglas 16; Darren Hinck 3-21, Andrew Ferres 3-29, Jamie Allan 2-23) lost to North Castlemaine 5-133 (Jamie Allan 43 not out, Max Matheson 33, Zac Hinck 21; Joel Logan 2-27, Drew Warren 2-31). Castlemaine United, Guildford and Newstead had the bye. 

B Grade 

Heathcote 8-159 (Tim Gleeson 46, Benjamin Poulton 27 not out, James Baker 26, Alex Williamson 19; Ed McEachran 3-28, Jack McLeod 2-12) defeated Muckleford 6-93 (Trevor Butcher 35; Brian Austin 2-18). Castlemaine United Blue 7-159 (Declan Brasher 46, Oliver Grainger 29, Josh Maher 21; Ashley Woodman 3-25) lost to Harcourt 8-163 (Kyle McLean 32, Jack Archer 24, Owen Bloomfield 22; Josh Maher 2-8, Will Penrose 2-31, Declan Brasher 2-33). Hepburn 7-250 (Nathaniel Lowe 56, Corey Pedley 55, Kallum Hartmann 41, Lindsay Olver 37; Ben Tombs 4-45) defeated Guildford 8-100 (Ben Tombs 26; Isaac Pedretti 3-23, Kenny Cummings 3-23). Newstead 10-118 (Charlie Chapman 25, Ciaran Gardner 25, Travis Allan 24; Leigh Walker 4-13, John Prendergast 3-8) lost to Campbells Creek Colts 1-120 (James Collie retired 51 not out, Brad Sturgess 40 not out, Tayler Walsh 20 not out; William Garsed 1-52). Castlemaine United Gold and Taradale had the bye. 

C Grade (Under 16) 

Muckleford made 10-158 on their first day of play against Castlemaine United Gold. Carisbrook were dismissed for 10- 30 (Jaxon Carmody 3-3, Sam Ross 2-8) and Maryborough (Lachlan Condie 51 retired not out, Jasper Trickey 25 not out, Keegan Doherty 19 not out) went on to claim the first innings win 0-101. Castlemaine United Blue made a positive start with 6-211 (Declan Brasher 53, Harper Kneebone 50, Samantha Brasher 29 not out; Jack Archer 3-10) setting a big target for Harcourt to chase down this Saturday. North Castlemaine/Guildford were on fire making a fantastic 5-327 (Max Matheson retired 51 not out, Benjamin Cue 50 not out, Ryland Webster retired 50 not out, Alex Welch 48 not out, Rainz Webster 37 not out; Jakoby Noulton 2-60) against Barkers Creek/Campbells Creek. Newstead 8-113 (Geoffrey Cook 52 not out; Brett Coon 4-13) will look to hold off Colts Phelans when the sides return to the pitch this weekend.
