Mixed results for Magpies

Sunday was Round 1 of the Central Victoria Football League and the Castlemaine Football Netball Club Women’s side and defending 2023 premiers played their season opener against Sandhurst at Ewing Park.


The day also saw the Magpie Under 18 Women’s Football side make their debut against Sandhurst.


Results were mixed as the Magpies new Under 18 team battled without a bench against the fresh-legged Dragons. The team heaped on the pressure reducing the opposition to 10 scoring shots while scoring five of their own. Castlemaine goal kickers were Chloe Butcher 2, Olivia Muscat, Tegan Barry and Lori Whaley.


The Magpies Senior Women meanwhile hit out from the first bounce, playing their smoothest football to date to win by 117 points.

Castlemaine 22.2 (134) to Sandhurst 2.5 (17). Goal kickers were Tiahna Cochrane 7, Eloise Gretgrix 6, Tiffany Bradley 4, Aisling Tupper 2, Bronte Ashworth, Rachael Stubbings and Maeve Tupper.


CFNC takes on Woorinen for Round 2 this Sunday April 14 at Camp Reserve. The Under 18s kick off at 11.15am and the Women at 1pm.
