Wilson victory

Greg Wilson is pictured with David Wharton - a fellow athlete he shared placings in the first 10km event held by Townsville Marathon Club in July, 1972.

Kyneton ultramarathon runner Greg Wilson has had impressive win at Townsville Marathon.

Wilson finished first Over 70 by 48 minutes at the event earlier this month clocking 3:48:30.

The race marked his 10th Townsville Marathon and third consecutive year.

He has no plans to slow down just yet with plans to attend a Wangaratta event and this year’s World Age Group Marathon Championship to be held in Sydney in September.

Wilson has made it mission to challenge many of Cliffy Young’s ultramarathon records – and now he has another of those in his sightline.

Just weeks after the World Age Group Marathon Championship, Wilson plans to compete in The Australian six Day Ultra at Adelaide. Here Wilson will target Cliffy’s 653.6km record.

While he described the challenge as “right out of my comfort zone”, he is certainly going to give it best shot.
