A social group for transgender, gender diverse and non-binary people is meeting again next Monday, February 21, in Kyneton.
The organisers of Trans and Gender Diverse Central Vic are keen to strengthen and increase the size of the group and look forward to planning more gatherings and activities in person as the year unfolds.
The group alternates between Macedon Ranges and Mount Alexander Shires and there are opportunities for transport to the venue if needed. Lead organiser Eli Gray, a transgender, gender diverse and non-binary (TGDNB) community member, will be supported by the LGBTIQA+ teams from Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health and Castlemaine Health.
“I am definitely the go-to person this year,” Eli said. “So, if you didn’t know until now that we existed, or have been sitting back a bit, now is the time to come forward and check us out!”
Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health has a long history of working with LGBTIQA+ community members through its WayOut and CLIP programs, which support both young people and older adults.
While Castlemaine Health’s LGBTIQA+ engagement officer Sherene Clow’s role is still relatively new in Castlemaine, Sherene’s workload is growing and constantly evolving.
“We are all very committed to supporting and increasing the visibility of the TGDNB community across the life span,” said CLIP project worker, Belinda Brain.
“Trans and Gender Diverse Central Vic provides a safe, inclusive and fun environment for members of the TGDNB community to come together, make connections and steer a group that meets the needs of local people.”
Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health runs a number of programs and support groups for LGBTIQA+ people of all ages and their families including WayOut, House of Awesome, Parents Empowering Rainbow Kids and the monthly Rainbow Coffee Club.
