Kyneton galloper Lovin’ Laughs broke through for his first city win by the narrowest of margins on Wednesday, much to the delight of trainer Mick Sell and connections.

The victory at Sandown Hillside was the five-year-old gelding’s fourth from 18 starts. The first two were on debut by four lengths at Echuca and in the follow-up run in Moe in late 2020.

Experienced horseman Sell has always been convinced Lovin’ Laughs was a prospective city winner, based on early ability shown in trackwork.

At his two previous runs he had run fourth and second and Sandown, and was sent out as a $12 chance last week, with Jamie Mott in the saddle again.

In front at the 200m mark of the BM64 event, Lovin’ Laughs looked to be a sitting duck, but fought on very well to take the money.

He is raced by the Miles family, of harness racing fame from the Romsey/Monegeetta area.

He was only the second galloper they had bred when he made his debut at Echuca.
