Kyneton Golf Club’s new committee has been working hard to give the club a new lease of life.

Visitors to the club will now see a freshly painted clubhouse exterior, thanks to Michael and Neil from Next Painting, transformed from blue and yellow to a more sophisticated basalt grey and cream.

The committee is now actively fundraising to renovate the clubhouse’s interior and is working on rebuilding the club’s membership.

“We’re gaining a member a week on average and all of our holes are now sponsored,” club president Jonathan Beachey said.

“The course was designed by Vern Morcom who is a legendary golf course designer – a lot of the premier courses have been designed by him – so architecturally it’s brilliant, it’s a real challenge.”

Mr Beachey said joining the club was a great way for newcomers to Kyneton to join the community.

“Looking at how the demographic of Kyneton is changing, it’s a great way for people moving up to Kyneton to meet people,” he said.

“Four hours walking around a golf course and having a beer is a great way to join the community.

“The committee is doing really well, we’ve got a new captain, the women are thriving and we’re just about to introduce a junior section.

“The previous committee has done an amazing job keeping the place alive, all we’ve now got to do is make the place thrive again.”

Mr Beachey said the club had a current membership of about 200 and was working on improvements to attract new members.

“We’re redoing the greens, sorting out the irrigation, tidying up the course and we’ve painted the clubhouse,” he said.

“The clubhouse is open for guests, socials, everything. The bar is open at weekends now, Saturdays and Sundays, so you come play golf and have a beer.

“We’re going to run new competitions to try to get people back into golf.”

The club is raffling of a set of golf clubs valued at $5000. People can support the raffle fundraiser by buying a ticket at kamrapay.com/shop/kyneton-gc-raffles

“We are aiming to raise $20,000 through ticket sales and this will be used to refurbish the bar area,” Mr Beachey said.

“We have made some solid progress so far in 2022, we have a long way to go but the most important things are we are having fun while we do it!”
