Improving access and inclusion

Mount Alexander Shire mayor Bill Maltby and Mount Alexander Disability Advocacy Group chair Lorraine Le Plastrier urge members of the community to put their hand up and get involved.

Do you want to help improve access and inclusion for people with a disability in the Mount Alexander Shire?

Express your interest in becoming a member of the new Disability Action Plan Working Group with Mount Alexander Shire Council.

The group will provide input, advice and feedback on the development of council’s new Disability Action Plan 2022-2026, which aims to make sure people of all abilities are welcome and included in the shire.

The group will be comprised of people living with a disability, people caring for someone with a disability, service providers, community members, and people who have specialist knowledge or interest in disability issues.

Mount Alexander Shire Disability Advocacy Group chair Lorraine Le Plastrier is one of the local community members putting herself forward to assist council to co-design the plan.

“This a great opportunity for people with a disability living in the Mount Alexander Shire to make sure their voice is heard,” Ms Le Plastrier said.

“If we want to bring about change, we need to speak up and share our experiences. Through that process, there’ll be a greater understanding of our needs in the community.

“I’m hoping this work will improve visibility, access and respect for people with a disability in our shire.”

Mount Alexander Shire mayor Bill Maltby said the group would provide valuable input to support the development of the plan.

“We’re looking forward to working together with residents who are living with disability, and their carers and support providers, on the development of this important plan,” Cr Maltby said.

“This will cement council’s commitment to ensuring our community is a place where people of all abilities feel welcome and included.”
