Raising funds for Ruby

The local community is urged to get behind the fundraiser for Ruby Gibson.

A fantastic fundraising event featuring Dave Larkin from Dallas Crane, and indie/rock band Rudely Interrupted will be held at Castlemaine’s Bridge Hotel this Saturday to support local family, Kendall Ingham and Trent Gibson and their children, Ruby and Neko.

Fourteen-year-old Ruby has a rare genetic mutation of the CHD2 gene, which means she has epileptic seizures every day. She struggles to speak, cannot read or write, and walking is very difficult.

“Sadly, Ruby becomes more regressed each year, which is hard,” said Ruby’s mum, Kendall.

“But Ruby is adorable and having good friends helps!”

The good news is that research into this gene and the CHD2 condition is making progress and there is hope that this will one day lead to a medicine or treatment that can help Ruby and other people affected by this condition around the world.

The fundraiser is being organised by a group of family friends, Kate, Amy, Kylie, Bernie, Claire and Liz, who wanted to show this beautiful family their support. The event will help raise funds for research into CHD2 through ticket sales at the door and a raffle, to be drawn at the event.

All funds raised will go to CCC – Coalition to Cure CHD2 to help them carry out research into hopefully finding a treatment or cure. CCC is a volunteer organisation, based in the US. It is the only organisation in the world that is working towards finding a cure for this specific condition.

For more information about Coalition to Cure CHD2 or to donate directly, see www.curechd2.org.

Thanks to incredible support from local businesses, there are some amazing raffle prizes to be won on the day. The Bridge Hotel has not only provided the venue but also a dinner for two as a raffle prize.

Shedshaker Brewing has donated a keg to help raise money through beer sales. The Theatre Royal has also donated two double passes to a live show of the winner’s choice.

Other raffle prizes include generous vouchers from Saff’s Café, St Florian’s Café, The Corner Store and Super Hero, along with two cases of delicious Harcourt Valley Wine and more!

The Fundraiser For Ruby will run from 1pm to 4.30pm this Saturday August 27 at The Bridge Hotel, Castlemaine. Tickets at the door $20 for adults, $10 children over 12 years.
