Romsey’s Emily Perkins and dogs have a special affinity, so much so that Emily has earnt the right to represent Australia at Crufts – rated as the greatest dog show in the world.
The Junior Kennel Club of Victoria is immensely proud of Emily’s achievement in winning her first Junior Handler National Final.
All the state junior titleholders gathered in Adelaide for the national final earlier this month.
The club said Emily did “an amazing job” and wished her well at Crufts in the United Kingdom early next March.
Dating back to 1891, Crufts consists of several competitions occurring at the same time, with the main one ‘Best in Show’.
It can be compared to a tennis players winning a Wimbledon title, or a golfer winning one of the Majors.
Emily is thrilled to be able to look forward to attending the largest show of its kind in the world.
Mum Natalie, and mentors and friends Hollie Mann and Makasla Chato, were excited about Emily’s success.
They reiterated how she has worked so hard at her chosen recreation, and showed the ability to handle dogs of various breeds.
Whippets are the new national junior champion’s favourite breed.
Emily attended Gisborne Secondary College, and has travelled far and wide to compete successfully as a junior handler.
Now the countdown is on to the day she steps on the plane to head for Crufts.
