Huge wasps

Lynda Langridge, Tylden

European wasps have been a huge problem where I live in Tylden.
My neighbour and I have destroyed more than 90 nests in the last three seasons. They are hibernating now and very slow but I have found some huge ones, maybe one or two or maybe a dozen in some strange places – in the wood pile, in some horse rugs hanging over the stable door, outdoor furniture, inside an umbrella, in the blankets of a disused dog kennel, even in a hollow broom handle.
I urge everyone to be on the lookout and destroy them. Of all the dusts, sprays etc. we’ve tried – Coles Multi Insect Killer is the best. One spray and they’re dead in 15 seconds.
They are extremely aggressive during summer. Never attempt to spray a nest during daylight. A single nest can easily house thousands of wasps and if disturbed near their nest they can swarm and attack you in seconds.
You will end up in hospital!
Let’s get back to summer days, outdoor living and barbecues without these wasps around to ruin our day.
