The new Kyneton Men’s Shed officially opened its doors last week.
The purpose-built facility, complete with a workshop, is a meeting place where men young and old can learn valuable skills, make connections and contribute to their community.
Shed chair John Mitchell said the land offered by Bupa at 2 Riverwalk Boulevard had been a lifeline for shed when members faced uncertainty about the shed’s future.
“Men’s Sheds do provide men with an important focus and sense of wellbeing,” he said.
“They provide an important forum where men can come together and talk about issues that interest them in addition to assisting the community in a variety of ways.”
The shed has been supported with $100,000 and land donation from Bupa, $60,000 state government grant, and many community donations including $10,000 from Noel Henderson and $6000 from the proceeds of a Daniel Butterworth exhibition.
More recently the shed has received $6000 from the Macedon Ranges Shire Council’s Places for People scheme. The funds will be used to operate a regular cooking school for men with a focus on simple healthy meals.
The grand opening last week was also a chance to unveil a new sign as well as three smaller signs to mark the Bob Grubb Workshop, the Noel Henderson Meeting Room and the Brian Ward Office.
The new shed is now open Wednesday to Friday 10am to 3pm with other opening times on Saturday/Sunday to be considered.
