Kyneton Basketball Association’s new president Christian Martinez is on a mission to return the KBA to its former glory.
At 22 years young he finds himself as the club’s director of coaching and head coach of the Men’s Program. He said a lot of new youthful faces had joined the association this season as it looked to rebuild its numbers and success.
“It’s a club with a rich history that has been lost and forgotten about along the way and I want to strongly urge the local community to support us now more than ever with our strongest side in years,” he said.
“In the past 36 months the club has been on its last legs, but due to the efforts of multiple committee members and volunteers we’re fortunate enough to continue to operate.
“They’ve trusted me to improve the club for the foreseeable future and I want nothing more than to see Tiger Pride at our fixtures this season.”
Among the talent at the association this year is a promising team that plays in the Country Basketball League North West Men’s Division.
With this new-look Tigers squad, coach Martinez is proud to highlight the future pathways put in place for young players, which include Hamish Mathison, a first year player who’s father and grandfather have represented the club in years past; Cooper Langdon, a recently appointed senior player who won the Division 3 Junior Country Champs Tournament this year with KBA’s U16s; and Kade Rushford, a second year player and captain of the men’s squad who came through the clubs junior representative system and is part of the new-look committee as secretary.
Several other players have also risen through the ranks of the KBA’s Junior Programs, including Liam Callaghan, Joel Turner and Brodie Dowell.
“I believe these new young players will help us build club culture and I really look forward to what’s in store for the years to come!” Martinez said.
