The future of Romsey Hotel and the former Romsey supermarket could soon become clearer.
The two prominent sites have sat vacant for years in key township locations and now Macedon Ranges Council is seeking discussions with the two landowners.
Last Wednesday, Cr Geoff Neil requested council’s acting CEO John Nevins to open conversations with Romsey Hotel’s Jim Hogan and the Habib family to understand future plans for the sites.
The hotel, on the corner of Barry and Main Streets, shut in October 2017 and the supermarket, opposite the Romsey Hub, has been shut longer.
Cr Neil said the two commercial sites were important to the Romsey community and was supported with a unanimous vote at the council’s ordinary meeting.
Fellow East Ward councillor Bill West said the future of these two sites was of interest to local residents and visitors alike.
“Those two properties have been vacant for some time and create a lot of comment from people and visitors to the town,” Cr West said.
“They are strategically located and hopefully there may be some good come out of any discussions that are initiated.”
Mr Nevins will write to both parties and report back to council with the outcome of any meetings.
