It was a massive week of cricket in the Castlemaine District Cricket Association with the 20/20 grand final decider held at the Camp Reserve last Tuesday evening and senior sides battling out semi and preliminary final bouts on Saturday and Sunday.
The C Grade/Under 16 competition was also capped off with the 2020-2021 grand final decider at Cricket Willow. The highlights of the round were Hepburn C Grade cricketer Tyson Scoble’s 106 not out run effort against Barkers Creek, Guildford B Grader Dave Webster’s 106* runs against North Castlemaine, and Muckleford A Grade bowler John Watson’s 6-29 haul against Barkers Creek. Results were as follows:
A Grade
In Saturday’s semi finals Barkers Creek 9-188(cc) (S Smith 46, C McKnight 38*, J Newlan 31, D Semmens 29; J Watson 6-29, J Priest 2-31) def Muckleford 121 (M Meade 27; D Semmens 3-24, J Entwistle 2-27). Newstead 5-155(cc) (T Reece 57*, S Winnard 32) lost to Castlemaine United 8-178(cc) (M McKimmie 53, C Aldridge 51*, B Brasher 33; K Bagley 3-16, L Walker 2-29).
On Sunday Muckleford and Castlemaine United returned to the pitch to contest the Preliminary Final. Muckleford 145 (B Cole 43, M Meade 38, J Watson 28; A Brasher 3-27, L Chaffey 3-34) lost to Castlemaine United 9-155(cc) (A Brasher 48; B Cole 3-28, J Priest 2-26, J Watson 2-32).
In 2020-2021 the A Grade competition is contesting a ‘Best of Three’ grand final format with contenders Barkers Creek and Castlemaine United to battle out matches this Saturday and Sunday at the Camp Reserve from 1pm. The first side to win two matches will be crowned Premiers. A third match is scheduled for Saturday March 20 at the Camp Reserve if the sides should win one game apiece this weekend.
A Reserve
In Saturday’s semi final bouts Hepburn 2-168 (N Robinson 86*, W Robinson 35*, B Yanner 27) def Harcourt 163 (H Brereton 37, M Sobey 30; T Scoble 4-39, W Shiell 2-20). Maiden Gully 117 (D Plowright 30; L Bright 3-11, C Gardner 2-10) lost to Newstead 144 (J Smith 69*; L Gill 2-15, A Blake 2-19, J Brown 2-32).
In Sunday’s Preliminary Final Harcourt 201 (M Sobey 37, M Frankling 37, H Brereton 27; L Chapman 2-28, L Bright 2-35, G Chapman 2-36) lost to Newstead 7-219(cc) (C Hepburn 75, J Smith 59*, J Bright 49; H Brereton 4-29).
In this Saturday’s grand final showdown Hepburn tackle Newstead at Wesley Hill from 1pm.
B Grade
B Grade are playing the traditional finals format with semi finals contested last Saturday and the grand final to take place this Saturday. Results were:
Muckleford 8-157(cc) (H Coombes 38, B McGuire 32; G McMurtrie 3-23, S Penrose 2-18) def Castlemaine United 8-76(cc) (D Singh 2-9, D Leathem 2-10, T Mellick-Cooper 2-11). Guildford 2-221(cc) (D Webster 105*, G Phillipson 43*, A Dzioba 41) def North Castlemaine 9-71 (L Williams 3-16, M Skinner 2-21, A Parsons 2-25).

C Grade Junior/U16
In C Grade action the 2020-2021 grand final was contested between Hepburn and Barkers Creek at Cricket Willow. Hepburn 9-212(cc) (T Scoble 106*, B Robinson 78*; N Anderson 3-24, C Woottan 3-33) defeated Barkers Creek 9-53. Barkers Creek’s Nathan Anderson and Chaz Woottan claimed three wickets apiece but unfortunately the side could not get their run rate ticking over and fell short of the target set by Hepburn.
20/20 Series
The grand final of the CDCA 20/20 series was also wrapped up last Tuesday evening with Castlemaine United 5-152(cc) (A Brasher 50, M McKimmie 45, C Aldridge 33*; L Hickman 2-15, J Brown 2-29) defeating Maiden Gully 9-69 (J Brown 25; N Kearton 2-4, C Aldridge 2-14, A Brasher 2-16).
Women’s Final
The Women’s grand final will take place this Friday evening, March 12 and will see Harcourt take on Barkers Creek at Harcourt Recreation Reserve from 6pm.
