Star on the rise

Juliette Debrincat, one of Macedon Ranges up and coming junior tennis stars, achieved a great result in the Geelong Lawn TC Junior Summer Series tournament last week, emerging as the U14 Girls Singles’ champion.

The tournament was played on grass over four days, with Juliette needing to be successful in each of her four singles matches.

Lawn courts are not something that most junior players are accustomed to playing on, however Juliette managed to take it in her stride and go on to win regardless.

She thanked Macedon Ranges Tennis Coaching’s Scott Vaughan who spent many hours coaching and training her on the grass surface in preparation leading into the tournament, and believes this was a major factor in her success.

This is on the back of being runner-up in the Shepparton tournament earlier in January.

Juliette has had many other successful tournaments over the past couple of years and was selected by Tennis Victoria to represent the Super 10s team talent squad when she was just 10 years old.

Playing in Macedon Ranges Tennis Association’s Saturday junior competition with Riddells Creek Tennis Club, Juliette has progressed quickly through the ranks and now plays in the A1 team.

“Tennis is fast becoming the sport of choice for women and girls and with players like Juliette coming up through the ranks, we know that the future looks very bright,” stated Riddells Creek club president Fiona Walker.

Many expect the victory by Ash Barty in the Australian Open Grand Slam Final on Saturday night will propel even more young girls to try tennis.
