Gisborne Men’s Shed has earned the title of ‘Best Shed in Australia’ for connecting their members and community.
The Australian Men’s Shed Association awarded the top honour and commended the efforts of members to communicate during the height of the pandemic.
For shed members, staying connected meant running a ‘virtual shed’ via newsletters and Zoom and proactively staying in touch with people who needed support in the Gisborne community.
Since the Gisborne Men’s Shed opened in 2011, the philosophy of the members has been to prioritise connecting with people.
When the pandemic hit, the group knew it was more important than ever that people had ways to connect, and continue useful projects based on the needs of the community.
Members are thankful to the members of the board of Macedon Ranges Health who approved their establishment in 2009, and more recently for the ongoing support of the Benetas team.
Steve Waite, manager of property infrastructure at Macedon Ranges Health/Benetas, said they were so proud of the members of the Men’s Shed.
“They work tirelessly for others, and it is lovely to see them receiving recognition for all that they do,” he said.
The members will now put their skills to good use, and construct a new shelf so they can display their prestigious award.
