Angie’s Cafe and Bakeshop and t2zero have joined forces to deliver a free community Christmas lunch for Kyneton people doing it tough this year.
Trentham-based business t2zero is funding the lunch and Angie’s Cafe and Bakeshop is providing the venue in a bid to bring together community.
“People are really struggling with the high cost of living – in the past year especially – it has been really difficult for people,” t2zero’s Jürgen and Debra Rhyon said.
“We wanted to put on something for people to enjoy at this time of year but it’s not something we could do ourselves.”
Jürgen and Debra are regular diners at Angie’s and soon after sharing the idea, the trio began planning to make it happen.
“This was just an idea for a random act of kindness at Christmas time and Angie has embraced it,” Jürgen said.
The menu will be a ‘roast dinner’ lunch with traditional meats and vegetables, dessert and tea / coffee. It is an alcohol-free event.
Community table style dining for 60-70 people will provide opportunities to meet new people in the community. A choir will also provide festive cheer throughout the day.
“We want to spread the Christmas cheer to those in our community who would otherwise miss out this Christmas,” Angie Wright said.
Angie is known for the passionfruit sponge cake she has been serving diners in the community for about 20 years. Her cafe moved to a new location in Mollison Street about 10 months ago.
The Christmas lunch will be held at Angie’s Cafe and Bakeshop on Saturday, December 23, from 11.30am to 3pm.
