Community throws support behind two young Lancefield boys injured

Xander is recovering at the Royal Children's Hospital.

Romsey Mitre 10 is leading a community charge of support for the family of two Lancefield boys recovering from severe burns following an accident last Friday.

Brothers Xander, 3, and Tanner, 22 months, suffered burns to their hands and faces after a small explosion from an aerosol can accidentally put into a fire at their property.

Emergency services rushed the pair to the Royal Children’s Hospital where Xander was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit on arrival and both boys underwent surgery. Both brothers are recovering but have a long road of recovery ahead.

When Romsey Mitre 10 owner Nick Waldhauser heard about the accident he wanted to show support and get the community involved.

The hardware store began a raffle, donating a Stihl MS311 ‘FarmBoss’ (RRP $1299) prize, and taking up a collection for the family.

“We really wanted to get on board to show our support and also give people in the community a gateway to do the same,” he said.

“The family are really strong and generous people and the type of people who would be showing the same level of support for others.

“The response from the community has been absolutely amazing. We’ve also had donations from as far away as the Queensland border and Western Australia.

“Every cent donated will go directly to the family to spend on medical bills, accommodation and whatever they need to help them through this.”

People can make a donation to the family through Romsey Mitre 10 at the store or purchase tickets to go into the raffle draw. Each $20 ticket is one entry into the draw.

Entries are now open and will close on Sunday June 12 at 3pm. Romsey Mitre 10 will announce the winner on Monday and contact them via phone.

The Midland Express will post an update about the raffle.
