Consistency works for Bulldogs

Gisborne took on Castlemaine on Saturday at the Magpie’s home ground with the aim of winning back to back games and playing four consistent quarters. The game started with both teams kicking early goals before Gisborne broke the game open with 10 majors in the first quarter, leading by a comfortable 60 points at quarter time.
The second term had Gisborne controlling the midfield with the forwards benefiting from the pressure applied by the Bulldogs. At half time, Gisborne lead by 86 points and there was an even spread of goal kickers, with eight players booting goals.
Gisborne continued to play direct football in the second half, adding another 11 goals to Castlemaine’s three. The senior boys ran away with a huge victory after the siren defeating Castlemaine by 140 points.
Reserves
After a fairly even first quarter, the Gisborne Reserves managed to increase the pressure in the following three quarters. As a result, the boys came away with a strong 62 point victory against a very determined young Castlemaine side at Camp Reserve. There were nine individual goal kickers for the day with Liam Docherty leading the pack with three goals.
Best player were O. Clough, A. Storie, D. Challis, S. Payne, J. Storie and T. Anderson.
Next round Gisborne play Golden Square at home and are hoping to secure a win at Gardiner reserve.
Netball
Apart from Gisborne A grade who had a bye, all the Bulldog’s netball teams came away winners on the weekend.
A reserve: Gisborne 74 d Castlemaine 40. B grade: Gisborne 53 d Castlemaine 17. B reserve: Gisborne 49 defeated Castlemaine 20. 17&U Gisborne 57 d Castlemaine 31.
