After spending five seasons with Coburg in the VFL, former Romsey teenage football star Nathan Blair is returning to play with the Redbacks next season.
Blair, a strongly built 23-year-old defender has been in Coburg’s leadership group for the past two seasons, and brings a wealth of experience back to his home town club.
Romsey finished sixth on the Riddell League ladder before bowing out in this season’s elimination final to eventual premiers Diggers Rest.
Blair’s presence in 2019 should further lift the Redbacks’ home-grown player philosophy.
Trophy winners
The club’s presentation night attracted plenty of interest.
Dynamic utility player Jack O’Sullivan took out the seniors best and fairest, ahead of dashing defender Ayden Tessari, with Jaidyn Caruna in third place.
O’Sullivan and Tessari were both selected in the Riddell League’s Team of the Year, and the former also won the Redbacks’ goalkicking award with 27 goals.
Jackson Mills was the most consistent, and Ricky Wood received the rising star award.
Reserves’ B&F was Brayden Feltham, with Tyler Boyle runner-up.
In the Under 19.5 voting Matthew Hoy finished in front of Brody Wood.
Romsey A-grade netballers finished runners-up to a talented Macedon side which went through the season undefeated.
Ultra-consistent defender Stefanie Symes was voted the Redbacks’ top player for 2018, with two other very talented players in Monique Clarke and captain Chelsea Ross (514 goals) equal second.
Megan Sampson edged out Rebecca Caminiti for the top award in B-grade, and Sophie and Genevieve Conlan were the top two in C-grade.
Rachel Frost was best in the 19&U team, with Jessica Parker runner-up.
Life memberships went to William McLeod and 200-game netballer Brunwyn Blair.
President’s award recipient was Tim Cruise, with Christie Brinkuis receiving the netball services award.
