The Gisborne team of Helena Cyrulo, Dorothy Evans and skipper Teresa Wylie won the final of the Women’s Triples of the Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region at the weekend.

They defeated the other Gisborne team of L Ball, M Ivory and V Noble (skipper) and will go onto play in the State Championships next year representing the region. Evans played a great final and concluded the match with her bowl being the winning shot.

Wylie’s team started strongly going out to a 12-1 lead after six ends before Noble’s rink went on to win seven of the next 11 ends narrowing the lead to a single shot to Wylie’s rink.

With the last end to be played, the draw bowl played by Wylie’s second, Dorothy Evans, scored the winning shot to secure the win for the Wylie rink.

Winning skipper Teresa Wylie said the greens were magnificent and played well all day and the weather was perfect.

“We were fortunate to win through in the morning’s semi-final against the Victoria team from Ballarat,” Wylie said.

“The final was between the two Gisborne teams.

“We got off to a good start before V Noble’s team caught up and it was down to the wire with the last end to play.

“Dorothy’s bowl held shot and it was not necessary for me to bowl my last bowl.

“We had great support from our Gisborne bowling members who came along, which is much appreciated.”

Wylie rink’s final score was 18 shots to Noble’s 16 shots.

In the Men’s, the strong Webbcona team of Zac Stewart, Matt Blacburn and Ben McArthur on 19 shots won from the composite combination of Greg Plier (Midlands), Brian Johnson (Sebastopol) and Terry Kelly (Gisborne) on 11 shots.
