Reunions were held for Lancefield’s 1966 and 1996 football premiership sides on Saturday.
It was time for many reminiscences, with surviving members of the 1966 side coached by supremo Kevin O’Brien being thrilled to finally be presented with quality premiership medallions. Legendary life member Neil ‘Mort’ Haslett made the presentations.
In 1966, the Tigers defeated arch rival Romsey 10.9 (69) to 7.8 (50) in the grand final match played at Gardiner Reserve, Gisborne.
President of Lancefield Football Netball Club, Chris Dynon, welcomed all who had returned for the special occasion, acknowledging the support than many former players and committee members still provide to the long-established club, which has won 22 senior premierships.
Current senior co-coach and dual premiership player Chris Collins briefly summarised the rebuilding phase being undertaken by the club, and the credentials of some of those primarily involved.
The detailed plan aims at a three-year period culminating in Lancefield being much more competitive on-field than at present.
Collins spoke as Lancefield Reserves were well on their on their way to defeating Riddell.
