A fundraiser on Friday will mark the first crucial step for Castlemaine Art Museum’s board as it works to raise much-needed funds to bridge the gallery’s funding shortfall and ensure it is a successful going concern from June 2023.

CAM invites the community to celebrate the inaugural CAM Commissions launch event this Friday.

The fundraiser follows on from CAM’s successful AGM on November 24, which saw the appointment of three enthusiastic and skilled new board members who will work with longstanding members to build on the achievements of ‘CAM Renewal’.

The CAM Commissions are a new series of unique, limited-edition artworks – this year focusing on CAM’s façade – created by outstanding local artists and available for sale.

CAM director Naomi Cass said they had commissioned works by three remarkable local artists with national reputations – After the Storm by Zoe Amor, Love & Fear by David Frazer and To the Women Founders of CAM by Melinda Harper – to unveil at Friday’s free event.

Fifty limited-edition prints of each commissioned piece are now available for sale with renowned local printer Ian Hill printing works by Zoe and Melinda and David Frazer handprinting his works. Michael Wolfe from Union Studios has donated the framing of the works.

This is a wonderful chance to purchase a work by a talented local artist and show your support for the beloved gallery.

The CAM Commissions are for sale on the evening and online.

“We also have terrific art experiences being auctioned thanks to local artists Clayton Tremlett, Catherine Pilgrim, Julie Millowick and John Wolseley,” Ms Cass said.

In addition to the CAM Commissions (ranging from $200 – $450) the board has also launched a second initiative the ‘100 for $1000’ campaign, which is tax deductible.

All funds raised will provide crucial funding toward CAM’s operations, programming and community engagement – enabling local and national exhibitions, artist commissions, inviting and accessible programs, and care for the collection.

Join CAM for an evening of celebration at 6pm this Friday December 9 where these limited edition works will be available for purchase, alongside exceptional art experiences. Drinks and light refreshments provided.
