Long-time Kyneton trainer Neil Dyer and some very patient connections of Oliver Bullet were rewarded on Friday when outsider Oliver Bullet broke through for his first win.

“It’s taken him 17 starts but it seems the penny has finally dropped,” the trainer said after the five-year-old finished strongly to win the Harvey Norman Ararat Maiden Plate over 1600 metres.

After running third in a trial at Tatura on January 11, Oliver Bullet finished last over 1600m at Colac, and was sent out as a $41 chance at Ararat.

Apprentice Tianni Chapman had Oliver Bullet travelling smoothly and wound up at the top of the straight.

Despite hanging in, the Kyneton galloper overhauled favourite Scotia and managed to win with three quarters of a length to spare.

NO FAVOURITES

Punters were wide of the mark at Kyneton & Hanging Rock Racing Club’s nine-event program at Kyneton on Thursday.

Not one favourite saluted, with the longest priced winner of the day being Rylestone, trained by Michael Trotter and ridden by Maddison Lloyd.

Rylestone won by seven lengths in the easiest victory of the day, starting as a $61 chance.

The Mark and Levi Kananagh training duo landed a double with Sorry Sailor and Dashibg Pierro, both breaking their maiden status.

The next race meeting at Kyneton is scheduled for Thursday, March 16.
