National Motoring Heritage Day is on the horizon with the Castlemaine Historic Vehicle Club preparing to join in the fun on Sunday, May 21.
Celebrating its 17th year, the event is marked by historic motoring clubs across Australia and gives owners of all types of vintage and classic vehicles an opportunity to take their wheels for a spin and meet other enthusiasts.
An initiative of the Australian Historic Motoring Federation, the aim of the event is to promote and display Australia’s strong motoring heritage and show the community the strength of the national motoring movement.
John Davis, president of the Castlemaine Historic Vehicle Club, told the Express that the event originally began as a way to show the public that the cars were still usable.
“There are events everywhere, including a big one in Bendigo, but we like to run our own event each year,” John said.
“We’ve been taking part since it first began in 2007.”
Club members usually drive their vintage cars down to the Western Oval for display, but this year they’ve decided to meet at the Castlemaine Botanic Gardens at 9.30am before travelling down the streets of Castlemaine, through Chewton, Elphinstone and Taradale before parking at the Malmsbury Botanic Gardens to lunch.
So make sure to keep an eye on the roads on Sunday, May 21 to catch a glimpse of these beautiful old cars. Or better still, head down to Castlemaine or Malmsbury Botanic Gardens and chat with club members.
