Castlemaine Football Netball Club hosted a massive Good Friday fixture of football and netball action at the Camp Reserve on Friday against Golden Square.
It was a day for debuts with Chaz Holman and Rhys Smith making their seniors debuts and Hannah Cochrane making her debut alongside older sisters Tiahna and Ella in the senior women’s football side led by brother and coach Jordan Cochrane.
The Magpies kicked off the day with 17 and under netball and under 18 football clashes and winding up with its trailblazing women’s football side playing under lights.
The Magpie seniors had a great win over the Bulldogs to the tune of 50 points.
The home side dominated the first term with goals to Zachary Greeves, Bailey Henderson and Brodie Byrne while the Bulldogs failed to register a score.
Coach Michael Hartley got the first goal on the board in the second term leading the charge as Bailey Henderson bagged his second and Rhys Smith nabbed another to see the Magpies leading by 39 points.
The Bulldogs finally roused and managed to score their first goal off the boot of Carson James, but the Magpies soon found a reply via Archie Rixon.
At half-time the Magpies led by 39 points.
Golden Square continued to battle for possession and kicked another two goals in the third via Riley Dillion and Tom Strauch while holding the Magpies to just one point.
However, Castlemaine bounced back in the final term with another three from Ryan Eyre, Matthew Filo and Chaz Holman before Hartley wrapped up the match with a goal before the final siren.
Castlemaine ran out winners by a commanding margin.
Best for the Magpies were Hunter Staples, Liam Wilkinson, Brodie Byrne, Ryan Eyre, Callum McConachy and Jack Sutherland.
The reserves suffered an 18-point loss to the Bulldogs despite a determined performance.
Best were Brodie Brown-Kerr, Ashton Keogh-Frankling and Campbell McLennan.
The under 18s lost to a rampaging Bulldogs squad by 85 points.
The Magpies were well served by Benjamin Jardine, Oscar Giddings and Tadgh Cananzi.

Netball
On the netball court, A Reserve had a great win over the Bulldogs 49-34. Best on was Olivia Henderson. B Grade lost to Golden Square 29-44. Best on was Natalie Quinn. B Reserve 16 lost to the Bulldogs 56. Best on was Hailee Browne-Kerr. The Magpie Under 17s lost to the Bulldogs 16-59 despite a top effort. Best on was Sianne Rhone.

Women
The Magpie women’s football side capped off the night with a fantastic 54-point win over the previously undefeated Golden Square. Best on for the Magpies were Jemma Finning, Tiahna Cochrane, Amelia Britt. Eloise Gretgrix was once again on song kicking three goals.
This weekend
This Saturday the Magpies make the trek up to Dower Park to take on Kangaroo Flat, while the Magpie women will tackle Bendigo Thunder at Weeroona Oval this Sunday at 1pm.
