Australia’s oldest uniformed Cadet organisation, The Australian Air League Inc. (founded 1934), is establishing a new Squadron in the Macedon Ranges.
The AAL is a uniformed, disciplined, fun organisation open to girls and boys aged 8-18 and adults as officers (18+) with aims to promote an interest in aviation among the youth of Australia, and to enable them to become better citizens, serve the community and achieve their full potential.
The AAL fosters a sense of pride, discipline and increased confidence in its cadets, which has advantages beyond parade nights, camps and reviews.
A regular parade night includes drill (marching), education and games.
Cadets start with the very basics of aviation and can work their way to a pilot’s licence. A wide variety of courses can be undertaken from meteorology, space flight, first aid and navigation, through to drone activities, cabin crew and many more.
AAL is also seeking interested adults to join as officers – for which comprehensive training is provided following regulatory checks and interviews. Without officers, the squadron cannot operate successfully.
Parents of cadets are encouraged to become involved in the formation of a committee to support fundraising projects and support the officers in the running of the Squadron.
The AAL is a highly respected volunteer operated and managed Australia-wide charity registered with the ACNC that includes its own flying school in NSW licensed by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
The first parade night for the Woodend Squadron will be on Tuesday July 7 at 6.45pm meeting at the Norma Richardson Hall, Buckland Street, Woodend.
An information night will be held at the hall on Tuesday June 30 at 6.30pm.
